Tropical Chic: Transforming Your Home into a Tropical Inspired Getaway

With summer at its peak, the thing on most people’s mind is a tropical getaway. This week’s board features design elements that are perfect for those looking to incorporate pieces reminiscent of tropical flora and fauna in a way that is balanced by natural wood and fiber furnishings and fixtures, creating a home that transports you into a tranquil place far away.

When building a space such as this, one must keep in mind that color accents go a long way in setting the tone for the room. The “Remedy” tile from Daltile in the color “Herbal” as displayed on the backsplash of this kitchen and bath is a vibrant glossy green with hints of warm brown defining the edges, drawing one’s mind to lush tropical forests and adding a pop of color within both rooms. Furthermore, by displaying this tile in a “stacked” pattern, the thin vertical lines created between the tiles using grout make the ceilings of the room appear taller while giving a more modern look.

Contrasting the saturation of green in the bathroom, while still making a statement, is the accent wall created with Elon Tile & Stone’s “Dolomite & Beachwood Dual Curvosa Mosaic”. As stated in the name, the taupe marble with veins of both light and dark brown, mimics the look of driftwood which is contrasted by the Dolomite’s bright white color, each of the tiny pieces of this mosaic coming together to form a split-arched pattern against the wall, not un-like what one could imagine would be found in a five-star resort. Unique to anything on the market, this mosaic is also safe to use in many areas whether it be on floors, showers, walls, or even fireplaces, making it easy to incorporate a touch of elegance virtually anywhere in your home.

The last essential element needed to complete any tropical inspired home comes down to the incorporation of natural fibers and textures. As seen throughout both the kitchen and bath of this design, rattan, rope, and wicker light fixtures were included to add texture and further hone in on the tropical “essence” at work within both rooms. In particular, the “Levene” pendant from Corbett Lighting mimics the silhouette of an oversized straw hat, bringing to mind a warm summer day at the beach. The woven shade constructed out of Abaca rope and accented by the vintage gold leaf chain embodies both refinement and a sense of airiness that is central to this design.
