“Art Nouveau”: A Selection of Products Representative of an Era

The Art Nouveau style is all about bringing organic beauty into design. Recognizable by its use of flowing lines, motifs of flora and fauna, stained glass, and delicate colors, this unique style is sure to turn heads. Art Nouveau began in the late 19th century but became popular in the early 20th century. People were intrigued by the clever use of curvilinear lines, asymmetric designs, and elaborate ornamentation.

During the Art Nouveau movement, the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany became incredibly popular, you may recognize his designs in what are now called “Tiffany” lamps. An example is featured in this design, a Tiffany art glass table lamp with a scalloped edge shade and ceramic base by Cal Lighting. This lamp has a ton of personality. The beautifully intricate design of the glass is characteristic of the Art Nouveau style.

Playing into the flowing lines of this style, Daltile’s “Lavaliere Windblown” mosaic in “Calacatta Gold” is a great accent backsplash. Made with natural stone, this mosaic tile has plenty of shade variation, providing a one-of-a-kind look. Although paired with a softer off-white grout here, this design would also be beautiful against a darker grout, allowing the pattern to pop more.

This style brings an unique elegance to the table. Inspired by art and nature, it is sure to bring a creative flair to any home.
